Medical Fiction Author Bio:

Award-winning author B.C. Krygowski is a double-board certified physician who has studied writing under Tess Gerritsen, Dennis Lehane, Laura Lippman, Andre Dubus, III, Les Standiford, and the late Michael Palmer. Author Benjamin Ludwig (Ginny Moon, Park Row Books, 2017) mentored B.C. in the AWP’s Writer to Writer Mentorship Program.

A highlight of B.C.’s writing life has been winning a Fair Fight auction to speak one-on-one with Jodi Picoult. Another was being asked by Dennis Lehane’s early mentor, Sterling Watson, to join his critique group when B.C. still lived in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Now a resident of Gainesville, Florida, B.C. has gone on to found a dynamic critique group of advanced level authors. She also runs a mastermind for woman novelists, Shakespeare’s Sisters, and hosts writing retreats for both groups at a friend’s mountain lodge outside Boulder, Colorado.

Since B.C. was born, raised, and educated in New York, she’s found living in Florida to be…interesting. Florida Man eventually grew on her, though, so she joined the Writers Alliance of Gainesville and is a lifetime member of the Florida Writers Association. B.C. has judged for FWA’s Royal Palm Literary Awards and won a first place RPLA for an unpublished book length Fantasy novel in 2018. She’s also the author of Spending Habits for Professionals Who Want to FIRE, a niche book for physicians that was ranked the second best continuing financial education in 2020 by the White Coat Investor.

In 2022, she completed the nearly three-year long Story Lab program under editor Lorin Oberweger and agent/teacher Donald Maass. From 2022 to 2024, WFWA’s guiding scribe, Camille Pagán, coached B.C. in group coaching programs for authors.

After over a decade of inflicting drawer novels on her fellow workshop participants and critique partners, B.C. is currently at work on her second non-drawer novel, a medical thriller. When B.C. isn’t working or lecturing at the top-tier nationally ranked  University of Florida Shands hospital, she’s out sweating profusely in the Florida heat with local track and swim teams. And yes, she’s usually the teams’ caboose.
